Frequently Asked Questions
What is the
CJV Weather Policy?
If Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools are cancelled
due to bad weather, all CJV practices will also be cancelled. Any
cancellations will be posted on the homepage of our website.
Please refresh the page to ensure you receive the latest information. Will practices be
held at the new Sports Connection facility in Ballantyne at the corner
of Ardrey Kell and Johnston Roads?
No. The NEW Sports Connection Facility in Ballantyne is a Family Fun
Center with Bowling, Laser Tag, Games, Inflatables, Cafe and a Sports
and Fitness Health Club. The Indoor Soccer Fields and Volleyball Courts
will remain at the Sports Connection Sports Center on Granite Street.
Will there
be another session of the Practice and Play Program after October 31st?
Practice and Play is only offered
in the Fall. The other programs we offer throughout the year are
Camps, Clinics, Non-Traveling and Traveling Teams. Please
register for the Non-Traveling Teams if you are looking to learn
and play volleyball from January-March or March-May.
Am I guaranteed
equal
playing time at every
tournament, practice,
and league Game?
The focus of the CJV program is individual and team improvement through
practice and training. Each player will receive equal training in
practices, but playing time at tournaments may not be equal. The coach
for each team will determine playing time based on ability, attitude,
attendance, effort and many other factors.
·
CJV policy
is that playing time on Traveling Teams will be totally at the
coach’s discretion.
·
CJV
policy is that players on Non Traveling Teams will receive
playing time in all league matches. Playing time on the younger and
more developmental teams will be equal. Playing time on the more
competitive teams may not be equal in all league games.
Can I play on a
Non-Traveling Team with my friend(s)?
Player requests to play with friends will be allowed when possible, but
may not be possible in all cases. Non-Traveling Teams will be divided
equally and probably practice and play at the same time per age group.
When will I find out what times my daughters' team practices?
Traveling Teams possible practice times will be
discussed at tryouts. The actual days and times your Traveling Team
practices could change based on the Facility's, Coaches and Player's
availability.
Non-Traveling practice times will be
posted on the website after the registrations are all in. Girls may be
able to switch teams if they are unable to attend their assigned teams
normal practices. Girls unable to make it to any of their scheduled
practice times will be issued a refund prior to the start of the season.
Is a deposit required for
the Traveling or Non-Traveling Teams?
Each year we have players who decide they do not want to play after we
post the teams. This is unfortunate, because other players have been
cut from those rosters and are understandably upset.
When selected for a Traveling Team you will have 24 hours to pay 1/3 of
your team fee or we will remove you from the team. To withdraw from
being selected for a Traveling Team submit your request IN WRITING prior
to the end of the second tryout.
You must pay your Non-Traveling Team Fee prior to trying out for the
Gold Level teams. This fee will not be refunded if you are placed
on a Gold Level team. Should you choose not to play on a Gold
level team you must let us know in writing by the end of tryouts for
your daughter's age group. You may receive a refund if you are
placed on a Silver Level team and choose not to participate and let us
know before the start of the season.
Can I
play up
in
a higher age group?
Players
are asked to tryout/play for their appropriate age group. Coaches may
then consider moving a player to an older age group based on positional
needs of the team. Players are only moved if it is in the best
interest of the player, team and club. It is rare that a player is allowed to play outside
of her age group.
Can I get a refund if I am injured?
The CJV club hopes everyone has an enjoyable and injury free season. In
the event a player is injured and is unable to continue the season,
every effort will be made to find a replacement player. The injured
player may be given a partial refund only if a new player is added to
the team roster. (Not
if a player is moved from another team.)
Players
quitting (for any reason) are responsible for their remaining balances.
Who are the coaches for the
CJV Programs?
Most CJV coaches are local college, high school or middle school
volleyball coaches or current or former college players.
The CJV Club is always looking for additional paid and volunteer coaches
to help with the Club.
If you or someone you know is interested in coaching, please have them
fill out a coaching application (see Coaches link).
What
are the other expenses not covered in the Program Fee?
The Traveling Team fee is determined by how many and which tournaments
your coach chooses for the team to attend. Total fees range from $1,595-$2,495* per girl, with 1/3 of the team fee due within 24 hours of when
teams are posted. More details and cost estimates will be available at
tryouts and on the CJV website.
Fee Includes: Tryouts, Practices, Gold Medal Squared Clinic, Uniforms, Coaches Salaries and
Expenses for Practices and All Tournaments, Equipment (Volleyballs,
Courts, Nets, Practice Equipment, etc.), Overhead (Administration,
Websites, Insurance, Credit Cards, Accounting, Staff), etc.
Additional Costs Include: USAV Membership ($35-40/player), Individual
Player's Travel Expenses, Possible Extra Tournaments and Other Optional
Team Expenses. Some teams may choose to do fundraisers during the
season.
The NON Traveling fee is $249* and covers
practice and league expenses and includes a team t-shirt.
*plus $25 Sports Connection Players Card Fee
(annual)
If I do not make a Traveling Team, will I be placed
on a Non-Traveling Team?
Yes, provided that you marked EACH program you would like to
participate in on your CJV Registration Form. However, you will
have to tryout again for the Non-Traveling GOLD level teams.
If I do not make a GOLD
Level Non-Traveling Team, will I be placed on a SILVER Level
Non-Traveling Team?
Yes, provided that you marked EACH program you would like to
participate in on your CJV Registration Form.
What are
my
parents responsibilities in CJV and at tournaments?
CJV encourages all parents to be active, positive members of the team.
Each Traveling team should have a couple of “Team Parents” to help with
phone calls, organization, car pools, chaperoning, fundraisers, etc.
Parents
role for teams tournaments include transportation, food, drinks,
cheering and moral support. Parents should never heckle players,
referees, coaches or show poor sportsmanship in any form.
