Select Team Program

Overview

The CJV Select teams will provide an opportunity for girls ages 12 – 17 to try out for competitive volleyball teams in North and South Charlotte. The season runs from December, and wraps up between April and June, depending on the age group. Tryouts are required for each season. Select teams will practice 1-3 times each week including a positional practice and compete in 5-8 tournaments on weekends in Charlotte and outside the Charlotte area and possibly a few tournaments outside of North Carolina.

Select teams will practice and play in tournaments from December – April/May/June. Tryouts for Select Teams are July 20-21, 2024, with registration opening in April. Tryouts for the 11-14u teams will be announced soon.

There will be no Spring Select program/tryouts for the 2025 season. There will be no extended season.

Mission Statement

The Travel Team Programs at Carolina Juniors Volleyball are designed to offer an opportunity for volleyball players in the greater Charlotte area to reach their full potential and to prepare for the next level of play. CJV provides a program of intensive skill and strategic volleyball training in a safe, positive environment. The experience will teach the values of teamwork, discipline, responsibility, motivation, and self-esteem.

Seasons

Most Select teams will practice and play in tournaments from December – April/May/June (depending on age group) for the season. Tryouts for Select Teams July 20-21, 2024 for the 15-18u group. Tryout information for the 11-14u group will be announced soon.

Teams & Locations

CJV’s goal is to form one Select teams at each age group per location for South Charlotte and North Charlotte. These Select teams will be made up primarily from the best players in each area and will practice at the CJV Volleyball Centers in their area of town. South Charlotte (Sports Connection-Granite Street) and North Charlotte (Sports Connection-Northlake).

Playing Age

The CJV Playing Ages are based on the USAV established Playing Ages. Players should try out for their age group. Coaches may move players and combine age groups as needed. The goal is 10-12 players per team.

Pre-Tryout Clinics – Travel Team Players

Pre-Tryout Clinics are an opportunity for players to get in the gym with our coaches, and experience our training prior to tryouts. These dates are posted now!

Invitation To Play

After tryouts are completed, all players making a team will be notified and have an option to accept the invitation to play with CJV. When selected for a team you will have 48 hours to pay a 1/4 of your team fee. To withdraw from being selected for a Travel Team, please submit your request IN WRITING prior to the end of the second tryout.

Practices

Select teams will practice 1-3 times per week, including positional practices. Select teams will primarily practice at their home location. Sports Connection-Granite Street or Sports Connection-Northlake Volleyball Centers. Please communicate with your coach about practice days and times.

Tournaments

A Tournament Schedule will be posted on the Team’s page when available. All Select teams will play in 5-8 tournaments throughout the season. Tournaments will be decided on by the coach with input from CJV. The tentative schedules will be available at tryouts along with the estimated team fee.

Playing Time

All players will receive some Playing time in each tournament at the Select team level, but it may not be equal.

College Recruitment and Player Training

Carolina Juniors has a long success record of graduating our youth athletes to the collegiate volleyball level. CJV is associated with the training program called Gold Medal Squared. Coaches and CJV Staff are trained on Gold Medal Squared techniques and skill development through various coach development sessions as well as through our Master Coach Practice Module enforced throughout the season. Cost

The Select team fee is determined by how many and which tournaments your coach chooses for the team to attend. Total fees range from $1295 – $2095 per girl, with a deposit due within 48 hours of when teams are posted.

Any player with a credit balance on their account can apply the credit toward their team fee to reduce the total amount owed for the new season. Players choosing the payment plan option will be setup on an automatic credit card or debit card for the remaining three payments due (dates TBA). There is no additional charge for the payment plan option or to use a credit card like many other clubs charge.

The Select team fee Includes: Tournament Entry Fees, Practices, Coaches Salaries and Expenses for Practices and All Tournaments, Equipment (Volleyballs, Courts, Nets, Practice Equipment, etc.), Overhead (Administration, Websites, Insurance, Credit Cards, Accounting, Staff), etc.

Additional costs may include: Uniforms*, USAV and/or AAU Membership ($45-55/player), Individual Player’s Travel Expenses, Possible Extra Tournaments and Other Optional Team Expenses. Some teams may choose to do fundraisers during the season.

*All uniforms this season will be decided on and ordered at the team meetings. A representative will be present at the team meeting with a run of uniform sizes for players to view. Additional apparel and equipment can be ordered by players and parents on the new CJV Online Team Store.
