Spring Semi-National Team Program

Overview
The CJV SPRING SEMI-NATIONAL teams will provide an opportunity for girls ages 12 – 17 to try out for competitive volleyball teams in North and South Charlotte from April – June. Tryouts are required for each season. Spring Semi-National teams will practice 1-3 times each week including a positional practice and compete in 3-4  tournaments on weekends in Charlotte and outside the Charlotte area and possibly a few tournaments outside of North Carolina. The team could elect to finish at AAU Nationals in Orlando, FL in June.

Mission Statement
The Travel Team Programs at Carolina Juniors Volleyball are designed to offer an opportunity for volleyball players in the greater Charlotte area to reach their full potential and to prepare for the next level of play. CJV provides a program of intensive skill and strategic volleyball training in a safe, positive environment. The experience will teach the values of teamwork, discipline, responsibility, motivation, and self-esteem.

Season
The Spring season will begin in April, after the Big South Qualifier, and end in late May or early June. The tentative schedule for each team will be released prior to tryouts.

Teams & Locations
CJV’s goal is to fill spots on multiple Spring Semi-National teams at each age group for South Charlotte and North Charlotte. Players who tired out in the Fall and are currently on a Semi National team have first right of refusal, and can choose to continue into the Spring or not. Tryouts are held to fill the positions of the players who chose NOT to continue. These spots are limited. Each team will be made up primarily from the best players in each area and will practice at the CJV Volleyball Centers in their area of town. South Charlotte (Sports Connection-Granite Street) and North Charlotte (Sports Connection-Northlake).

Playing Age
The CJV Playing Ages are based on the USAV established Playing Ages. Players should try out for their age group. Coaches may move players and combine age groups as needed. The goal is to have 10-11 players per Semi-National Team.

Tryouts & Registration – 2023 Season
Pre-registration is required for all Travel Team Tryouts.

New Tryout Participant: There is a $35 Registration Fee for all players who did not participate in our 2022/2023 Travel Program Tryouts in the Fall. When registering, you will register for Spring Semi-National Tryouts – NEW under your age group.

Returning Tryout Participant:
For players who tried out and ARE NOT CURRENTLY on a CJV Team: Please register for the “Returning” tryout. You will be required to include your Tryout Shirt Number on the registration form. Anyone who tried out during the 2022/2023 Fall Travel Program tryouts is considered a returning tryout participant (even if the player was not placed on a team). Players who receive a bid on a team will be contacted immediately following tryouts and will continue to be contacted into the following week. Teams will be posted once all bids are accepted and deposits are paid.

For players who tried out and are CURRENTLY on a CJV Team: Players who choose to continue with their current team MUST register and indicate which team they are on. You are not required to include your tryout number. An informational email will be sent out in early February to players and coaches. In this email, players can indicate if they are interested in continuing in the Spring season, or if they will opt out. Players must decide by March 1st, 2023. Players who choose to continue into the Spring season must make the deposit on or before March 10th, 2023. An email will  be sent out when all players are invoiced. In the event that your coach is not able to continue, but the team wants to, CJV will do our best to find a coach. If we cannot find a coach by March 10th, 2023 we will email all players with options.

If you are currently playing with another club, trying out for our Spring Semi National season will not conflict with any USAV letters of commitment since our Spring season does not attend any USAV sanctioned events. All players are welcome to tryout.

Tryout Ages, Dates, Times
Tryouts take place at our Granite Street. The goal is to hold tryouts at a central location to provide our coaches and staff a better opportunity to run a fair tryout and see all players together. The actual tryout dates, times and location will be posted for the upcoming season a few months before tryouts. • 13u – Born between 7/1/2009 – 6/30/2010 – March 14 – 530pm – 730pm at Granite St
• 14u – Born between 7/1/2008 – 6/30/2009 – March 14 – 530pm – 730pm at Granite St
• 15u – Born between 7/1/2007 – 6/30/2008 – March 14 – 530pm – 730pm at Granite St
• 16u – Born between 7/1/2006 – 6/30/2007 – March 14 – 530pm – 730pm at Granite St
• 17u – Born between 7/1/2005 – 6/30/2006 – March 14 – 530pm – 730pm at Granite St

Coaches for 2023
Each of the Semi-National teams will have one Head Coach plus support coaches that float between teams. Visit the COACHES page to see details on our incredibly talented and successful coaching staff. Visit the TEAMS page to see all Teams and Coaches. Coaching assignments below may change based on the number and level of girls at tryouts and the total number of teams formed.

Coaches will be announced prior to tryouts.

Invitation To Play
After tryouts are completed, all players making a team will be notified and have an option to accept the invitation to play with CJV. When selected for a team you will have 48 hours to pay at least 1/2 of your team fee. To withdraw from being selected for a Travel Team, please submit your request IN WRITING prior to the parent meeting.

Practices
Spring Semi-National teams will practice 1-2 times per week. Spring Semi-National teams will primarily practice at their home location. Sports Connection-Granite Street or Sports Connection-Northlake Volleyball Centers. Click on TEAMS for more specific practice information once you are selected to a team. Practices could be any day of the week from 530PM – 730PM or 730PM – 930PM. Practices could be on any weekend from 8:00AM – 8:00PM. More information on practices will be available at tryouts.

Tournaments
A list of possible tournaments teams MAY attend can be found below. All Spring Semi National teams will play in 3-4 tournaments throughout the season. Tournaments will be decided on by the coach with input from the CJV club and parents and players. The tentative schedules will be available at tryouts along with the estimated team fee. Tentative tournament dates coming March 2023.

Playing Time
All players will receive some Playing time in each tournament at the Semi-National team level, but it will not be equal. Playing time is at the coaches discretion.

College Recruitment and Player Training

Carolina Juniors has a long success record of graduating our youth athletes to the collegiate volleyball level. CJV is associated with the training program called Gold Medal Squared. Coaches and CJV Staff are trained on Gold Medal Squared techniques and skill development through various coach development sessions as well as through our Master Coach Practice Module enforced throughout the season. Cost
The Spring Semi-National team fee is determined by how many and which tournaments your coach chooses for the team to attend. Total fees will be communicated by March1, 2023. Half of the team fee is due by March 10 for returning players; new players will have 48 hours to submit half of the fee as their deposit.

Any player with a credit balance on their account can apply the credit toward their team fee to reduce the total amount owed for the new season. Players choosing the payment plan option will be setup on an automatic credit card or debit card for the remaining payment, or a plan agreed on by both the parent and the CJV Board of Directors. There is no additional charge for the payment plan option or to use a credit card like many other clubs charge.

The Semi-National team fee Includes: Tournament Entry Fees, Practices, Coaches Salaries and Expenses for Practices and All Tournaments, Equipment (Volleyballs, Courts, Nets, Practice Equipment, etc.), Overhead (Administration, Websites, Insurance, Credit Cards, Accounting, Staff), etc.

Additional costs may include: Uniforms*, AAU Membership ($45-55/player), Individual Player’s Travel Expenses, Possible Extra Tournaments and Other Optional Team Expenses. Some teams may choose to do fundraisers during the season.

*All uniforms this season will be decided on and ordered at the team meetings. A representative will be present at the team meeting with a run of uniform sizes for players to view. Additional apparel and equipment can be ordered by players and parents on the new CJV Online Team Store.
