National Team Program
Our National teams will provide an opportunity for girls ages 12 – 18 to try out for competitive volleyball teams in North and South Charlotte.
The Travel Team Programs at Carolina Juniors Volleyball are designed to offer an opportunity for volleyball players in the greater Charlotte area to reach their full potential and to prepare for the next level of play. CJV provides a program of intensive skill and strategic volleyball training in a safe, positive environment. The experience will teach the values of teamwork, discipline, responsibility, motivation, and self-esteem.
The CJV NATIONAL teams will provide an opportunity for girls ages 12 – 18 to try out for very competitive volleyball teams in North and South Charlotte. National teams will practice 2-3 times each week and compete in 8-10 tournaments on weekends outside the Charlotte area and usually outside of North Carolina.
Upcoming Travel Team Tryouts
Most National teams will practice and play in tournaments from November – June. Teams qualifying for end of season tournaments may choose to play into July. Tryouts for Elite Teams are at the end of July or early August.
*All tryouts will take place at the North location. Holding tryouts at a central location will provide our coaches and staff a better opportunity to run a fair tryout.

Tryouts & Registration – 2023 Season
Pre-registration is required for all Travel Team Tryouts.
There is a $35 tryout fee for Travel Team tryouts. All tryout participants must be pre-registered. All players will receive a shirt to wear at tryouts and to keep. Tryout shirts and numbers must be picked up before the first day of tryouts. You can sign up for each level you are interested in trying out for including Elite, National, Semi-National and Regional. The level(s) you choose will not affect the coach’s evaluations the day of tryouts. You will be placed on the most competitive level possible for your skill set. If your player cannot attend tryouts, please send a highlight reel to [email protected], along with any other details coaches should know (school, position, jersey number, previous school or club awards, recruiting status, etc).
There are two consecutive days of tryouts for all ages. We understand that some players may have to miss part or all of one day of tryouts due to other commitments. Players should come to each tryout if they are able. Tryouts can prove to be a stressful time for parents and players, in an effort for each participant to have the best tryout possible, our tryouts will be closed to all spectators.
Players not making a CJV TRAVEL Level Team are encouraged to play on one of the many CJV LOCAL Gold and Silver Teams.

Pre-Tryout Clinics – Travel Team Players
We have created over 20 Travel Team Pre-Tryout Clinics in August to help you prepare for the Travel Team Tryouts. Clinics are designed for higher level players who will be trying out for a Travel Level (Elite, National, Semi-National, Regional) Team with CJV. Clinics are open to current CJV players, as well as girls who have never played with CJV before. Click Here or visit our Training Program pages to view all the dates and times for your age group. Clincs will be announced in the summer.
Teams & Locations
CJV’s goal for our National Level Teams are to have 1-3 teams at each age group for each location. These National teams will be made up of the best players from all over Charlotte and the surrounding cities. Teams could practice at the CJV Volleyball Centers in South Charlotte (Sports Connection-Granite Street) and in North Charlotte (Sports Connection-Northlake), but most National teams will practice primarily at their home locations.
Seasons
Most National teams will practice and play in tournaments from November – June. Teams qualifying for end of season tournaments may choose to play into July. Tryouts for Elite Teams are at the end of July or early August.
Playing Age
The CJV Playing Ages are based on the USAV established Playing Ages. Players should try out for their age group. Coaches may move players and combine age groups as needed. The goal is 10-11 players per team.
Invitation To Play
After tryouts are completed, all players making a team will be notified and have an option to accept the invitation to play with CJV. When selected for a team you will have 48 hours to pay at least 1/4 of your team fee. To withdraw from being selected for a Travel Team, please submit your request IN WRITING prior to the end of the second tryout.
Practices
National teams will practice 2-3 times per week. National teams may practice at the Sports Connection-Granite Street or the Sports Connection-Northlake but will primarily practice at their home location. Click on TEAMS for more specific practice information once you are selected to a team. Practices could be any day of the week from 4:00 – 10:00 PM. Practices could be on any weekend from 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM. More information on practices will be available at tryouts.
Tournaments
A Tournament Schedule will be posted on the Team’s page when available. All National teams will play in 8-10 tournaments throughout the season. Tournaments will be decided on by the coach with input from the CJV club and parents and players. The tentative schedules will be available at tryouts along with the estimated team fee. Each team will have the option to try and qualify for the National Championships. The cost to enter the National Championships and the coaches expenses are already budgeted for in the CJV Elite Fee. If teams and coaches choose not to attend Nationals, or if the team fails to qualify for Nationals, a refund will be issued at the end of the season to each girl.
Playing Time
Playing time in tournaments is totally at the coaches’ discretion at the National team level.
College Recruitment and Player Training
Carolina Juniors has a long success record of graduating our youth athletes to the collegiate volleyball level. We have an in-house recruitment coordinator and we also utilize ConnectVolley for our online recruiting platform. For more information on college recruiting, check out our Player Resources tab.
CJV is associated with the training program called Gold Medal Squared. Coaches and CJV Staff are trained on Gold Medal Squared techniques and skill development through various coach development sessions as well as through our Master Coach Practice Module enforced throughout the season. Cost
The National team fee is determined by how many and which tournaments your coach chooses for the team to attend. Total fees range from $3295 – $4095 per girl, with 1/4 of the team fee due within 48 hours of when teams are posted.
Any player with a credit balance on their account can apply the credit toward their team fee to reduce the total amount owed for the new season. Players choosing the payment plan option will be setup on an automatic credit card or bank draft for the remaining three payments due (dates TBA). There is no additonal charge for the payment plan option or to use a credit card like many other clubs charge.
The National team fee Includes: Tournament Entry Fees, Practices, Coaches Salaries and Expenses for Practices and All Tournaments, Equipment (Volleyballs, Courts, Nets, Practice Equipment, etc.), Overhead (Administration, Websites, Insurance, Credit Cards, Accounting, Staff), etc.
Additional costs may include: Uniforms*, USAV and/or AAU Membership ($45-55/player), Individual Player’s Travel Expenses, Possible Extra Tournaments and Other Optional Team Expenses. Some teams may choose to do fundraisers during the season.
*All uniforms this season will be decided on and ordered at the team meetings. A representative will be present at the team meeting with a run of uniform sizes for players to view. Additional apparel and equipment can be ordered by players and parents on the new CJV Online Team Store.
